I’ve climbed Parlick and Fair Snape Fell a bunch of times but for some reason never activated it. So I convinced someone to come on a hike with me and packed my IC-705. I parked at SD 6015 4421 where there’s enough space for at most about 10 cars and headed up Parlick. It’s about 3 kilometers to the summit and a 330m vertical climb. It usually offers some lovely views over Bleasdale but on this day we were treated to high winds and cloud at the top.

This should have been a very easy activation on 2 meters given the height and the fact that you’ve got line of site over Blackpool and Morecambe, but I did have a little panic when I made two contacts quickly and then their airwaves seemed to go dead!
A little patience and thankfully it picked up again – and I even managed to get a couple of summit to summit calls to GW/NW-054 and G/SP-010 in too.
I had planned to activate on HF too, hence using the 705 instead of just a handheld but I managed to leave the BNC adapter I need to connect to my MC-750 back in the truck. That was very frustrating, but I made the contacts I needed to activate the summit, so thankfully not a problem on the day. There is a summit shelter at the top should the wind pick up and you need somewhere to duck in. It’s a H shape so offers good protection from all directions. The ground on the way up was a little wet underfoot but the summit itself was quite rocky, so not a problem once you’re up there.
